Tutorial: How to Curl Hair With a Straightener
Here’s how to curl hair with a straightener it is pretty easy after a little practice. I have been a hairdresser for over fifteen years and making a gorgeous curl with a hair straightener is always requested by my clients. This is mostly for going out, special occasions or at the party time of the year.
One large misconception is that you need a curler to create curls in your hair. Many curlers on the market are designed so you have to hold your hair or wrap them around your hair. To avoid the risk of burning use a heat proof glove or use a curling tong with the type that has a grasp that holds the hair whilst you curl these are very popular with hairdressers. Because they avoid the risk of burning your fingers as the plates get very hot.
The great thing about using a hair straightener is that once you get the hang of it your hands are always away from the heating area and also you do not need to invest in an extra pair of hair curlers.
Start by taking a section of hair not two large and not too small. Try to get a section about fifty percent width of your hair straightener plates. This is going to be the size of the curl.
Switch on your hair straightener and set the desired temperature here the temperature is set to 230 degrees as the client has very thick human hair extensions. Place the hair straightener in the hair at a slight angle about three quarters way down the section of hair.
Turn the hair straightener keeping it on an angle, turn it up and under the hair section up towards the hairs root. Roll the straightener if you need use the end grip to roll up through the hair. The hair should overlap the straightener barrel like the picture below.
Then in one pass whilst the hair is wrapped around the hair straighteners barrell. Pull down the hair so it passes through the plate. Keep the hair straightener on an angle and work down the hair slowly with one pass letting the plates do the work.
The result is a gorgeous curl its quite easy to master after some practice. This can then be repeated around the head to create a beautiful style.
